The Evolution of Digital Storytelling Technologies

Research——I picked the evolution of digital storytelling tech as the theme because it shows how new technology is changing the way we express ourselves. From HyperCard to AI-driven personalised storytelling, these changes show how technology is changing the way we tell stories, making them more interactive, accessible and creative. This topic not only shows how digital tools are changing, but also how they are changing the way we create, share and consume stories in the digital age.

Design——I chose this timeline because it shows how things have progressed over time and how different events are connected. A timeline is a great way to explore key events and trends over time because it’s structured and interactive, unlike a video or map. Text is combined with images and links to help viewers understand more without overwhelming them. I chose TimelineJS because it’s really easy to use and you can add multimedia, which is great for creating engaging digital presentations.

Implementation——I created the timeline using TimelineJS and Google Forms. Each event node has a title, time, description and image. The whole process went relatively smoothly, and the timeline shows key milestones in the development of digital narrative technology to achieve the initial goal.

Reflection——The format of the timeline is easy to understand and good for this kind of thing. I think it would be better to have all the timelines on one page for quick viewing, but of course, this might reduce the immersion of the viewer
